coral-trout-in-the-deep-blue
Coral Trout in the Deep Blue
This painting of a coral trout signals my first, proper and serious attempt at depicting one of the many creatures beneath the ocean – fish. My father enjoys fishing with a heated passion, and first introduced me to fishing when I was still a juvenile. Fishing, in our family, has always been seen as a way of catching enough to last several meals (with any leftovers being filleted and frozen). The usual catch is bream, whiting, tarwhine, Mose’s snapper, flathead, the occasional mangrove jack, and small reef fish. I chose to depict this large coral trout in the depths of a coral reef, as they are highly sought-after and are a thing of beauty.

It is important to showcase artwork of our natural environment to ensure we are all aware of other life forms, apart from humans, that exist in the delicate environment. As most of us know, the Great Barrier Reef is in danger of being seriously damaged by the effects of climate change. With damage to the reef’s ecosystem comes the endangerment of fish species that we depend on for our own health and survival. Apart from that, humans have no right to force another species into the threat of extinction, purely because we are too lazy to make changes to environmental policy. I, therefore, will continue to portray Australia’s wildlife in art.

Size: 91cm (W) x 67cm (W).

Medium: Watercolour on paper.

Framed with a professional white frame.
