enjoying-a-meal-glossy-black-cockatoos
Enjoying a Meal Glossy Black Cockatoos
I was lucky enough to see some Glossy Blacks in the wild eating casuarina nuts. The birds were very confident around people and did not fly away even upon closely approaching them. I have painted enough Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos for now, so it was time to try something different, albeit only slightly. Glossy Black Cockatoos are similar to the other black varieties of cockatoos, but smaller and less raucous. They are found mainly in New South Wales and have been sighted up in the northern region of Queensland. They are a highly threatened species of bird, as their diet consists of a very specific nut from the Allocasuarina tree. Land clearing has meant that there are fewer trees for these beautiful birds, and, because of their shy nature, these cockatoos avoid areas of high human activity.

These birds are depicted in the coastal region of southern Queensland, where they are likely to be found on a very special occasion.

Size: 82cm (W) x 61cm (H).

Medium: Acrylic on canvas.

Framed with a professional wooden frame.
