Claire Skeet is a West Australian artist working primarily in acrylics, creating expressive paintings inspired by the beauty, colour, and atmosphere of the Australian landscape. Her work is characterised by bold brushwork, dynamic movement, and a vibrant sensitivity to light and shadow, resulting in paintings that feel alive with energy and presence.
Entirely self-taught, Claire approaches painting intuitively, allowing each work to evolve through layers of colour, texture, and instinctive mark-making. Her process is deeply responsive, often blending directly on the canvas and building surface through the use of both brush and palette knife. This hands-on approach gives her paintings a strong sense of spontaneity, while also revealing a considered understanding of composition, balance, and visual rhythm.
With a background of 25 years as a working costume designer, Claire brings a strong design sensibility to her art. Her experience in colour, form, and visual storytelling informs the way she constructs each painting, lending her work a distinctive confidence and cohesion. There is both freedom and structure in her practice — an energy that reflects her love of creative exploration and her ongoing fascination with the shifting colours and moods of nature.
