Jake Reston

For Brisbane-based artist Jake Reston, creativity has always been a driving force. With a career spanning design, branding and visual communication since 2008, Jake has built a reputation as an Art Director, collaborating with renowned brands including Tiffany & Co., LSKD, Jocelyn's Provisions and Calexico. Alongside his commercial work, painting has remained a constant, an intuitive and deeply personal creative outlet that allows him complete artistic freedom.

Jake's artistic journey began long before his professional career. As a teenager, he immersed himself in Brisbane's street art scene, spending countless nights painting throughout West End. This experience instilled an instinctive approach to making art, encouraging experimentation, spontaneity and an appreciation for creativity beyond the traditional gallery setting.

Working in contemporary abstraction, Jake explores the balance between structure and spontaneity through bold geometric forms, organic shapes and layered textures. Each painting begins with an open, experimental process before gradually finding harmony through colour, rhythm and composition. Rather than imposing a fixed narrative, his work invites viewers to discover their own interpretations and emotional connections.

Influenced by modernist design, Bauhaus principles, street art, mid-century aesthetics and contemporary abstract artists, Jake also draws inspiration from music, architecture, travel and exceptional design in all its forms. His background in design continues to shape his eye for composition, while new environments and experiences constantly expand his creative perspective.

Through his work, Jake hopes to create paintings that feel engaging, balanced and full of energy. Whether they evoke calm, nostalgia, joy or simple curiosity, he believes the strongest artworks are those that encourage viewers to pause, look a little longer and leave with their own unique interpretation.
