This Tudor style building is one of the most significant landmarks in Oxford town centre, where Alice lives in the UK. 

This painting is very much British, not just by the building style but also the name Pret. Pret a Manger is a British sandwich and coffee shop franchise chain. Naming the painting Pret, gives a modern twist to a painting of an old building. 
 
Alice walks past this listed building countless times for work since the first time she set foot in the city. This is not uncommon for locals.
