Painting Description
A famous architecture which can be found easily in paintings throughout history. Working in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, UK.Alice has seen lots of paintings inspired by this canal city nearly everyday, almost like a form of travel advertisement. Even up to the day before Alice travelled to Venice, she was next to the painting by J. M. W. Turner - Venice, from the Porch of Madonna della Salute.
St. Mark's Basilica is part of Alice Kwan’s Wanderlust series.
Wanderlust is inspired by places Alice has been to and places which she wants to visit one day.
It’s a combination of a bucket list and a public record of where she’s been. Painting them and hoping to evoke viewers motivation to explore the world we live in.
Although it’s been nearly a decade, the amazement never disappear living in the part of the world where Alice is living.
‘I still marvel when surrounded by European art and architecture. I especially enjoy the look of stunning masonry and stones reflected by sunshine.’
This sense of admiration and respect expressed in her art is a small tribute to thousands years of western art history.
