John Graham’s paintings are best understood as a meeting point between Australian landscape painting, animal imagery and expressionism. His work isn't primarily concerned with reproducing nature exactly as it appears; instead, he simplifies and exaggerates it to create a distinctive visual world.
Graham's own website divides his canvas work into several periods, including Elemental Landscapes (2006), Transitional Landscapes (2007), animal series such as Cats and Lions, and later Expressionist Landscapes (2017). His exhibition history also shows a sustained interest in birds and landscapes, including Birds and Landscapes (2012), Birds (2013), On the Wing (2009), a nd Wild at Heart (2009).
The painting you showed
The painting with the two flying birds over the yellow Australian landscape and blue rocks is particularly interesting because it brings together several of those recurring Graham characteristics.
Colour is probably its most immediately striking feature. The ochre/yellow landscape is interrupted by unusually intense blue rocks. Rather than trying to make the landscape photographically realistic, Graham uses colour almost emotionally. The blue becomes a visual counterpoint to the warm Australian earth.
The birds are highly stylised. Their bodies are reduced to strong shapes and patterns, almost halfway between painting and illustration. They don't behave like conventional natural-history paintings of birds. They become graphic symbols moving across the enormous space of the landscape.
That is important in relation to Graham's career because animals and landscapes are not separate subjects for him. His exhibition history shows the two repeatedly coming together. Birds and Landscapes in 2012 is an especially direct precedent for the work you have shown.

We use 4.5 cm thick timber mouldings, made of sustainable hardwood.
To enhance the presentation, we utilize the gallery wrap technique, where approximately 1 cm of the canvas print is wrapped around the stretcher bars on each side, ensuring a seamless and polished finish.
A subtle 5 mm gap between the canvas and the frame creates a striking floating effect, giving the artwork a sense of depth and prominence.
The canvas is expertly stretched over a wooden stretcher bar and mounted within a shadow box floating frame.

Frame Colour
The Oak frames are made of nature timber moulding, they may come with different tones, or have timber marks on them, while the Black and White frames have smooth colour.
Our Vintage Gold Frame is currently unavailable due to supply shortage. We expect them to be back late June or early July. The vintage gold framing is not a clean gold colour, it will come with natural imperfections, giving a vintage look.
All the wall art are available in Black/White/Oak frame colours.
